Boozy Dole Whips (4+ Servings)

This Boozy Dole Whip is rich, smooth, and ridiculously easy to make.

It’s actually one of my most popular recipes of all time on Instagram.

It’s frozen pineapple, vanilla ice cream, and clear rum blended into a soft, creamy cocktail that tastes like a vacation.

You don’t need a shaker. You don’t need a syrup. You don’t even need to measure that precisely honestly.

Just toss it in the blender and serve it cold.

Perfect for pool days, brunch, beach trips, or any night you feel like skipping the bartender and making something fun instead.

Let’s make a batch, shall we?

WHAT IS A BOOZY DOLE WHIP?

The original Dole Whip is a soft-serve-style frozen pineapple treat you can get at Disneyland, the Dole Plantation in Hawaii, and a few other theme park spots. It’s creamy, tropical, and crazy nostalgic if you grew up with it.

This version keeps everything you love about the original but adds a splash of rum and a little vanilla ice cream to make it a legit frozen cocktail. You’ll blend it up, scoop or pour it into a glass, and feel like you’re on vacation in about ten seconds flat.

IT’S QUICK AND EASY TO GET STARTED

You don’t need a fancy machine or a margarita maker for this. Just a decent blender and a few basics tools.

I’ve got all my favorite tools for frozen cocktails linked in my Amazon store.

Including these little affordable dessert glasses that are perfect for serving your Boozy Dole Whips in!

You can grab everything in one place and be ready to go by the weekend.

WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS

This is the ultimate low-effort frozen cocktail. It only takes three ingredients and a blender.

There are no syrups to make. No prep to do. No ice to dilute the flavor.

You get real pineapple flavor, creamy texture, and a boozy kick that hits just right. And because it’s blended, everything is evenly chilled and perfectly smooth.

It’s simple, fun, and feels like something you’d order on vacation for twenty dollars, but you can make it at home in under two minutes.

WHAT’S IN THE MIX?

You only need three things.

Frozen pineapple

Vanilla ice cream

Clear rum

That’s it. Toss everything in a blender and mix until smooth. If it’s too thick to blend, add a splash of pineapple juice or coconut milk to help it along.

You’re looking for a soft-serve consistency. Thick enough to eat with a spoon, smooth enough to sip through a straw.

WHAT RUM SHOULD YOU USE?

Go with a light or clear rum for the cleanest flavor. You want something that blends in and boosts the tropical vibe without overpowering the pineapple or vanilla.

Here are a few solid options at every level:

Budget Friendly
Bacardi Superior. Super easy to find and neutral enough to let the fruit shine.

Mid Shelf
Cruzan Light Rum. Smooth, clean, and subtle. Great value for a frozen drink.

Premium
Probitas. A blended white rum that has a little more body and a natural tropical note that fits perfectly with the pineapple.

Avoid spiced rums or anything aged. You want light, bright, and fresh.

DOES IT ACTUALLY TASTE LIKE THE REAL THING?

Yes, but way better!

It’s sweet and tart from the pineapple, creamy from the ice cream, and just boozy enough to have a good time. The texture is thick and soft like a milkshake, and the flavor is tropical, nostalgic, and dangerously addictive.

If you’ve ever wanted to turn dessert into a cocktail, this is your dream recipe.

HOW TO SERVE IT

Spoon some into a chilled coupe or dessert glass. Serve with a spoon, a straw, or both.

Top it with a fresh pineapple wedge, leaves, or a maraschino cherry. You can also dust it with toasted coconut or add a paper umbrella if you’re going full vacation mode.

Make sure it’s cold and thick. Nobody wants a runny Dole Whip.

CAN YOU MAKE IT AHEAD?

Sort of.

It’s best served fresh, right out of the blender. But if you want to prep ahead, blend it and freeze in individual cups or mason jars. Then just let it sit out for a few minutes before serving.

You can also scoop it into a bowl and re-blend with a splash of liquid if it freezes too solid.

ZERO PROOF VERSION

Want the fun without the booze? Skip the rum and blend frozen pineapple with vanilla ice cream and a splash of coconut milk or pineapple juice.

Still creamy. Still tropical. Still totally satisfying.

Serve it in a fun glass with a garnish and nobody will even miss the alcohol.

KEEP IT AWAY FROM KIDS

This is one of those drinks that looks like a treat from Disneyland. It smells like fruit. It tastes like soft serve. And it’s very much not for kids.

If you’re serving it around others, make sure it’s clearly labeled or served in adult-only glasses. The alcohol is blended in, so you won’t see it or smell it, which makes it easy to confuse.

COMMON MISTAKES

This recipe is easy, but a few small missteps can mess with the final result. Here’s what to avoid:

Don’t use fresh pineapple unless you freeze it first. The texture won’t be right.

Don’t add ice. It waters it down and ruins the creaminess.

Don’t use spiced or dark rum. It competes with the pineapple and tastes off.

Don’t over blend. You want soft serve, not juice.

Don’t skip the vanilla ice cream. It’s the creamy base that makes it a real Dole Whip.

FUN VARIATIONS

If you want to switch it up, try it with frozen mango, raspberries, or strawberries instead of pineapple.

Or a combination, there really is no wrong way to do this.

You could use coconut rum instead of plain for an extra tropical twist.

Add a float of dark rum on top for a layered flavor hit and an extra kick.

Sprinkle Tajín over the top for a spicy-sweet surprise (I actually wish I would have tried this first).

Blend in a splash of lime juice to brighten the flavor and make it less sweet.

This recipe is flexible. Once you’ve got the base down, you can tweak it however you like.

PAIRING IDEAS

This drink plays well with summer flavors. Serve it with:

Grilled shrimp skewers

Fish tacos

Fresh mango salsa

Coconut popcorn

Tropical fruit trays

Or just enjoy it by the pool with a speaker and a towel. No wrong answers here.

FAQ

Can I use canned pineapple instead?
Not really. The frozen chunks are what give this the right texture. If you use canned, freeze it first.

Does it taste like pineapple ice cream?
Exactly. Sweet, tart, creamy, and tropical with a boozy finish.

Can I use a dairy free ice cream?
Yes. Coconut or almond milk based vanilla ice creams work great. Just make sure it’s smooth and not icy.

How much rum is too much?
Stick to about two ounces per serving. Any more and you risk melting the texture or overpowering the flavor.

Can I make it for a crowd?
Absolutely. Just scale the ingredients and blend in batches. Freeze in individual cups if you want easy handouts.
